I just bought Family Tree Maker Version 16 Essentials [CD-ROM] on Amazon.com. They seemed to have the best deal. I don't need anything DELUXE or COLLECTIBLE — just the basics. And it is the latest edition.
I don't know if FTM is the absolute best; but for me it is because I have been using it since I started my research over 10 years ago — so the familiarity of it is a plus.
Don't buy it on Ebay — it costs sooo much for even an older version. On the FTM site you can see that 16 is the latest.
I'm going to try it on the lap-top. Hopefully I'll be able to get over to the storage place and get my old files off my old desk-top. As if I have room for any of this at the moment.
